The Tortoise and the Iphone

I’m not sure why I came up with this title...
I’m sitting here at a shop at The Falls waiting on my Iphone battery to get replaced at the Apple Store a few stores down. As I sit and wait, I’m reminded of how slow things can go but by slowing down I can somehow be more productive.
Over the years, my dad has reminded me of story of a friend of his that when he asked him how he’s doing, his friend replied, “Oh, I’m just as busy as a little beaver.” (He has recounted this story many times over the last 30 years since his friend actually said it.) But the problem is that this guy rarely got much accomplished. He was busy, but not productive. Maybe it would have been helpful for this guy to slow down a little.
So maybe getting my Iphone taken away for a while can actually help me get more done.
Slow…As it relates to Renew Church. Things kind of feel as though they are moving slower than I expected. However, I also feel like in this season of waiting some really good things are happening. For example, I believe I could start a church in the matter of a few weeks and be up and running. But maybe we wouldn’t be ready for the challenges of leading a church week in and week out.
Slow…As it relates to Scripture. The foundation is the most important thing in a house. So, if I get the house built, but it is on a less than adequate foundation- when storms come Jesus reminds us that it will crash (See Matthew 7).
Speed is for internet, communication, cars and getting your approval for the Homeowners’ Association (Hopefully soon 😊).
Slow is for good health, good relationships, wise investments, good ideas and a strong start.
Slow is a choice that can make you more productive in the end. You might actually go faster by going slow.
