Hi there!
This weekend Misfit Youth has a lot going on! In addition to our regular service for our youth, which happens every Friday starting at 7pm, we have two events happening that all are invited to.

On Saturday, Misfit Youth is hosting a Harvest Market from 12 – 4PM! This is going to be a fun event with a lot of beautiful crafts and delicious food for sale. There will also be an inflatable obstacle course and several fun games for kids to play. Entrance is only $5, and all proceeds go to filling boxes for Operation Christmas Child.

Then on Sunday morning they will be hosting a Misfit Takeover at our church. The youth will be serving in several areas, leading worship and Pastor Carlos will be speaking about what it takes to be a Misfit.
We hope that you come out and join us for these great events!

See you Sunday,
Pastor Carlos

Hi there!
I know there are lots of things to do on Friday nights - especially this one!  If you are looking for something to do, why not join our youth for a “Night of Worship”!

How cool is it that our students want to lead a worship event to light a night that is oftentimes a day focused on darkness?  In addition, our Outreach Team will be handing out hamburgers and snow cones in a local neighborhood that is known to have lots of families and children visiting and inviting them to Renew Church!

VISION SUNDAY
Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish…”

This Sunday, I can’t wait to celebrate all that we have seen God do at Renew and look ahead for all that He is going to do in the days ahead!  Vision Sunday only comes once a year - don’t miss it!

CEREAL & CRAZY SOCK SUNDAY
RC Kids has something fun planned this Sunday as well! All our kids are encouraged to wear their craziest socks and will enjoy a yummy cereal treat during class!

Looking Up!

PS: Two more reasons to be here this Sunday: 1.This is the first Sunday of the month - where we take a moment to remember Christ's sacrifice on the cross for our sins.  2. You will be getting an extra hour of sleep this Sunday as it's the end of Daylight Savings Time!

Thank you for the Birthday Wishes!

Hi there!

Thank you so much to everyone who wished me a “Happy Birthday” yesterday! I had some people tell me I should take the day off - my response was that I didn’t want to.  In part, because taking a day off literally just pushes back the things that I need to get done for the week which means I have more stress leading up to Sunday. And the second reason: I LOVE WHAT I DO!  It is an honor to be your pastor!

I am really excited for the next 3 months in our church.  We are preparing our teams to move from two to three services starting in January and as we share this with our church family- we continue to see people step up to serve and lead!  God is doing some amazing things in our church but I truly believe the best is yet to come!

I want to encourage you to jump in to all the things we have happening at Renew!  I often say, “One of the best ways to grow in your relationship with God is growing in relationship with His people.”
Don’t miss Sunday Funday next weekend (10/26) with great food, a live DJ, a Hayride, Baptism & more! Click here to sign up for Baptism! Plus, RC Kids is hosting a scare-free costume contest with a fun prize for the winner!

Some of the other events to plan for this season includes:
  • Phil Stacey Concert | Oct 18 @ 7P
  • Sunday Funday | Oct 26 9:30 & 11A
  • Misfit Night of Worship  I Oct 31 @ 7P
  • RC Kids Cereal Sunday | Nov 2 @ 9:30 & 11A
  • Vision Sunday | Nov 2 @ 9:30 & 11A
  • Misfit Harvest Market | Nov 8 @ 12pm

From Burden to Vision

10/9/2025

Hi there!
Last weekend we kicked off a new series in the book of Nehemiah. It's a powerful short story (13 chapters) that depicts the life of a Jewish man who was exiled from his homeland and when he heard about the current condition of his nation and people - he prayed.  But this was more than a 5 second prayer - he sat down, he wept, he mourned, he fasted and he prayed.  This was a season of prayer that impacted the king that he served as well as the future of Jerusalem. Nehemiah had a burden that became a vision that led to the rebuilding of the wall around Jerusalem.

This weekend, I will continue the series with a message entitled, “hand of God”.  Proverbs 21:1 say, “In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him.”
Join me as I talk about the impact of having the Hand of God on our lives, our church, our community and our world!

Also, on Saturday, October 18, Renew Church is hosting Phil Stacey in concert!  This is a fundraiser event to raise money for Safe Families.  A non-profit in Miami that supports at-risk children that are in foster care.  We would love to have you join us for this special event! Click here!

Hi there!
What a weekend! We’re celebrating with our Hope Center family on such an incredible event on Saturday night. It was completely sold out, and—thanks to your support and a generous matching grant from a family connected to Renew—over $70,000 was raised! This amazing support will help the Hope Center continue to grow and thrive in the year ahead.

This Saturday morning is our Ladies Gather event, and if you haven’t registered yet, don’t miss it! These Gather events have been such a blessing to the women of Renew, and I know this one will be no exception. It’s going to be a beautiful time of connection and encouragement.

And finally—I’m excited to launch a brand-new vision series this Sunday in the Old Testament book of Nehemiah. Nehemiah’s story of redemption and renewal for Israel carries powerful lessons for us today. If you want to jump in with both feet, I encourage you to read through this short but impactful book (just 13 chapters) during the series.

Can’t wait to see you this weekend!
Looking Up,

The Answer to Hate is not Hate.

9/25/2025

Picture
Hi there!
In my 17 years of full time ministry (5 as a youth pastor and 12 as a Lead Pastor at 2 different churches)- I don’t recall a more politically and emotionally charged time in our nation.  Depending on social media/search algorithms, we are being influenced by everything we are seeing on the news and influencer posts (and even sometimes becoming skeptical to why those same influencers are not responding.) My advice: don’t let it get to you.  Maybe the person is just not on social media right now- or they are so broken by what is happening that they don’t have the strength to post and face the backlash of comments from one side or another.  The bottom line- let us be “stewards of God’s grace in its various forms” (For more on this, check out my sermon from last Sunday and read 1 Peter 4.)

Although I didn’t see the entire funeral service for Charlie Kirk, I did see a clip from his widow, Erika, “I forgive him because it was what Christ did and is what Charlie would do. The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the gospel is love and always love. Love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us.”

Whether you agree with the politics of her or her husband- its impossible to not agree with her stance on forgiving her husband’s murderer.  We have to find ways to forgive those that hurt us.  If we don’t, it not only hurts them - it hurts us.

Marghanita Laski, a well known author and atheist said, “What I envy most about you Christians is your forgiveness.”

I have said this many times, but its worth repeating: Those who anger you control you.  Don’t let them do that.  The answer: Forgiveness.

Don’t miss this Sunday as we conclude our Bystander Series and celebrate Baptism together!  If you would like more information about baptism - go to www.renew.miami/baptism and let us know if you are ready to take that next step!

Hi there!
It is exciting to see the growth at Renew!  As the Summer season changes to Fall - we are seeing more and more people getting connected to our church!

In addition to our growth in Sunday morning services, we have seen a 50% increase in our online attendance.  Last week, I was talking to Yolanda who started coming to our “Online church service” on Sundays at 11am that we broadcast on Youtube, Facebook and via our website.  Yolanda signed up to get baptized and my first personal introduction with her was at the beach on the day of her baptism (she had already went through Baptism orientation with another staff member).  That day, her friend came from Georgia to celebrate her baptism with her.  Her friend was so impacted by the event and the new connections they made at the beach that day that she decided to start participating in our Online services while living in Georgia!  Now, she is even in the Women’s Zoom group that meets on Thursdays!  And it started because of a service that Yolanda saw Online…  God is good!

In addition to the growth online, our 16 small groups have over 160 people attending!  Even if you missed the first couple weeks, its not too late to join a group.  You can find out more by clicking here or by speaking to our Groups Director, Jessica May.  She would love to help you get connected.

One of the newest groups that we started is our Outreach Group.  This is a team of people that are getting out in the community to bless and encourage those that need it.  Sometimes it will be through an evangelism event and other times they will do tangible expressions of compassion by helping people in need.  On September 27 at 9am, they will be hosting a $1 Car Wash.  The idea behind the $1 Car Wash is that people will pull in thinking that they are getting their car washed (for a $1) and when the car has been cleaned- Renew will hand them a $1 and offer to pray for them and invite them to church!  Its going to be a really fun event - if you would like to participate- contact Emily Pound or just show up on Saturday, September 27!

I know I say this alot, but this is the perfect time to participate in a group and jump on a team - serving “1 service 2x a month” and attending a small group 2-4x a month will help you grow personally.  "One of the best ways to grow in your relationship with God is by growing in relationship with God’s people.”

A Wide Range of Emotions

9/11/2025

Picture
Hi there!
I am feeling a wide range of emotions for all God is doing at our church as we see growth but also feeling the heaviness from what is happening in our nation.  If you missed my email regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk, I sent it on Wednesday night or you can find it on my blog at www.pastorenmiami.net.  If you would like to join us in prayer for our nation and community, we will be meeting at the church for one hour this Saturday at 9am in the Connections Room as well as a time of prayer during the services on Sunday.

At Renew, we are seeing an average of 354 people per week in 2 services - we actually have had to bring in extra rows of chairs (I affectionately call our “growth chairs” since they are green:) and we are feeling the pressure to prepare for a 3rd service on Sundays starting in January 2026.

With that being said, this is the perfect time to jump on a team- serving “1 service 2x a month”.  By participating in one of our teams, you will not only help us minister during this season but in preparation for 3 services starting in January.

It is amazing to see the growth but we have also made the decision to hire an off duty police officer for the safety of our children and families.  We also have established a security team that is watching cameras and common areas to make sure to keep you safe.  We won’t stand by and watch what is happening- your church is vigilant and responding to what is happening in our world.

As I mentioned in my previous email, Romans 12:21 calls us to, “…not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”.

Pray for our Nation

9/11/2025

Picture
My heart is heavy as I process the tragic news of Charlie Kirk’s assassination. I was on a Zoom call with about 8 other pastors when one of them received a text message about him being shot and by the end of the meeting - we found out he didn't survive.  It is hard to find words in moments like this. We grieve not only the loss of a man but also the pain and confusion his death stirs in our nation. Events like this remind us just how fragile life can be and how much we need the peace of Christ to carry us through.

Even as we deal with this reality, we remember the promise of God’s Word: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” Psalm 34:18. Right now, we cling to that truth. Jesus has not abandoned us—He is here, He is faithful, and He is our steady hope when the world feels unsteady.

Violence, hatred, and division are painful reminders of the brokenness around us, but they are not the end of the story. Christ calls us to live differently—to shine His light in the darkness, to respond with grace and love, and to hold tightly to the hope of the Gospel. Romans 12:21 reminds us, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

This Sunday, let's come together in prayer for peace in our community, nation and our world. John 1:5 says, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” That’s our confidence today - the darkness is real, but it will not win. Jesus is the light, and His love endures forever.

Still Looking Up,
