MAD at Lunch Yesterday.

This week my family and I had the opportunity to stay in a friend’s cabin in the Smoky Mountains. It has been a great time to get away, to pray for Renew Church and spend time with our family.

The one thing that has made this trip a bit challenging is my fast. I’m eating a limited menu of food during our 21 days of prayer and fasting and so eating has not been the highlight of the trip. (In case you didn’t know, I like to eat!)

Jesus taught that fasting requires the right heart. Here’s what He said in the Sermon on the Mount:

“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:16-18

Yesterday, we went to a restaurant for lunch. After taking our orders, our waitress disappeared. We called the manager and complained about the service and he apologized. He said she just left in the middle of her shift. I was upset about it and the manager apologized and discounted our bill. Since leaving the restaurant, I have been thinking about my attitude. I wasn’t rude to our server, but I also wasn’t particularly kind.

What’s my point?
I don’t know what our server might have been going through. I just know that I need to take all that focus on myself and start looking to the needs of others.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
Philippians 2:3-4

Would you do me a favor? Pray for the lady that was serving us at the restaurant yesterday. I don’t know what her needs are but please pray for God to help her. Also, look for opportunities to “value others above yourself”.

Let’s get M.A.D. (Make a Difference) in someone’s life today!

Love you all!
