Day Fourteen: Our daily bread, our manna from heaven is Jesus… we need to gather it every day.

Experiencing hunger in the desert, the Israelites complained to Moses. God responded by providing a peculiar substance they had never encountered, so unusual that they named it manna, a term that literally means "what is it" in Hebrew.

They didn’t like the manna, though. They craved quail, leeks and cucumbers—foods associated with Egypt. These were not the provisions suitable for a wilderness trek to the Promised Land.
The Israelites failed to comprehend the purpose of their freedom and remained unaware of the mission they were meant to fulfill.

Jesus, fully understanding His mission to set spiritual captives free and introduce the Kingdom of Heaven, challenged expectations.

Despite witnessing His miracles, Jesus proved to be disappointing news for the crowds. After Jesus fed thousands with just a few loaves and fishes, they recognized Him as the Prophet Moses had predicted. So they chased after him to crown Him king, to repeat the deliverance of Egypt with a new Moses.
But Jesus refused to repeat history. He came to do a new thing… and it was so strange that the crowd didn’t recognize it for what it was. So, disbelieving, they asked for a sign.

Once again, they missed the point that their salvation went beyond the natural realm they could see. They just wanted full stomachs and freedom from Rome. But God was always about  something so much bigger and greater. He wanted to teach them to look beyond their physical appetites to their spiritual needs. True food and salvation could only be found in the God who grants eternal life.

So often we settle for the minor victories when God has grander plans in store for us. Resist the temptation to settle.

Scripture Reference: Deuteronomy 8:3
- Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

Scripture Reference: John 6:32–35
- 32
Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. 33 The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 “Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day.” 35 Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Prayer Prompt: Seek from God the spiritual nourishment that guides you and reveals His purpose for your life.
