Baptism at Renew

Hi there!
I AM SO EXCITED!

I know it feels even longer, but we are preparing for our first Baptism and Child Dedication ceremonies in over a year!

If you have never been baptized (or maybe you weren’t old enough to remember), consider taking this NEXT STEP in your faith!

At Renew Church we believe that baptism is important for every person who has accepted Christ as his/her Savior. We consider it a privilege to walk with those that choose to take this next step on their spiritual journey.

What is Baptism?
Baptism has been a Christian symbol since the time of Jesus. It involves applying water to Christians to symbolize their death to the old way of life (Romans 6:3-4) and their new life God provides (Galatians 3:26-27). Baptism, a sacramental "means of grace”, seals one's intention to follow God (Acts 2:37-41, 8:35-39, 10:44-48).

A general definition for the word baptism is “a rite of washing with water as a sign of religious purification and consecration.” This rite was practiced frequently in the Old Testament. It signified purity or cleansing from sin and devotion to God. Since baptism was first instituted in the Old Testament many have practiced it as a tradition yet have not fully understood its significance and meaning.

In the New Testament, the significance of baptism is seen more clearly. John the Baptist was sent by God to spread the news of the coming Messiah—Jesus Christ. John was directed by God (John 1:33) to baptize those who accepted his message. John’s baptizing is called “a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” (Mark 1:4).  Those baptized by John acknowledged their sins and professed their faith that through the coming Messiah they would be forgiven.

Child Dedication
Another special moment in the life of families in our church is Child Dedication. This happens when the parents choose to have their children dedicated as a symbol of their intention to raise them in God's Church and their hope to see that they choose God's ways when they are older.
Both of these events are very special for the friends and family for who the ceremony is for, so don’t forget to invite them to join you!

If you would like more information about either of these events happening on January 24, please reach out to me!  Reply to this email and I would love to set up a time to talk you more about it!

See you Sunday!
Love,
Treavor and Misty
