I am preparing to do a wedding this weekend and I have been thinking about the ring ceremony that happens during the service. Although the ring is small in size, it is big in significance. Made of precious metal, it reminds us that love is neither cheap nor common; indeed, love may cost us dearly. Made in a circle, the design tells us that love must never come to an end; we must keep it continuous.

When the bride wears her ring, it is a reminder that her heart is committed to one man and that he loves her very much. Wherever she goes, people will notice her ring and realize that she is in a marriage commitment. The ring is the next step for the couple in their love for each other.
Water baptism shares a similarity in our love for God and commitment to Christ. When a person decides to be baptized, it may seem like a short and simple ceremony- but it speaks of a lifetime commitment.

A person’s baptism is the next step of a new Christian as they are communicating of an outward expression of an inward work in their life. They are declaring that they are committed to Christ and that they want to experience a “dying” to their old self to be “raised” to new life in Christ. This picture is a clear illustration that symbolizes the death and resurrection of Jesus. If you have made the decision to follow Christ, baptism is one of the most meaningful next steps you can take.
