Amazing grace, how sweet the sound. Many of us are familiar with that well known hymn and oh, how we need to be singing this song. It should be no surprise to anyone living in America that we are in a very tense season as a country. It seems like people want you to take a side and “fight the good fight” of Facebook debates and subliminal Instagram posts. And if you don’t, well then, you must not care about what’s going on.

I once was lost, but now I’m found. Was blind, but now I see. Those also lyrics of the hymn ‘Amazing Grace’, and how true a statement for anyone who has put their faith in Jesus. We should be so thankful for the grace God shows us because it was God’s grace that forgave us and welcomed us into His family, even though we did not deserve it and had a different view point than God’s. Just as God revealed this amazing grace to us, whether it was from a sermon that touched us, a friend who’s testimony could only point to God, or any other way, we as His sons and daughters have the privilege to extend grace to those around us.

Why though? Why am I bringing this up during a crucial political time in our country? Because although I realize that this is a crucial political time in our country I cannot forget how God saved a wretch like me. And because He saved a wretch like me and like you, we cannot allow this season to distract us from the fact that there are people who need to be saved. Political Facebook debates or subliminal political Instagram posts are not effective ways to extend grace to someone who needs to be saved. On the contrary they do the exact opposite. I want to challenge the church to drop the fight of proving a political point and pick up the fight of reaching lost people for the sake of Jesus Christ. Whether someone is a Democrat or a Republican, God still wants to save the lost and they’re are lost people on both sides. So instead of reacting argumentative when someone posts or says something we don’t agree with publicly, let’s be a people who can reach out to them privately and see how that person is doing and see if there’s anyway we can be praying for them. The reality is that regardless of anyone’s political party, they can be saved by God’s amazing grace. It’s grace that brought us to the Lord and it’s going to be the grace we extend that leads people to the Lord.

Regardless of the political outcome, Jesus is still King. In 4 years whoever the president is will either cease to be president or will have an opportunity to lose their presidency but when that time comes, Jesus will still be King then and forever more. Let’s shift our focus from earthly disputes to focusing on the lost who need our King. “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:13‬. Let’s be a good flavor wherever we are, online or in person, and extend grace, patience, love, and kindness to all. I believe we can do it and heaven will be rejoicing because of it.

God bless you.

With love,

Mikey
