I Believe

As we get closer to launch day, I think it's important to share some of our basic beliefs.  And I think its fair for you to ask things like, "What does it mean to be part of your church?" and "What do you believe about ________?" (You fill in the blank).  There is more that I can share as it relates to our theological stance but for the sake of time and attention span... here is a good start.

First of all, we believe in the Apostles' Creed.

"Next to Scripture, the statement of faith most often used to communicate the essence of Christianity is the Apostles' Creed. For the Early Church it provided a touchstone to guide both evangelism and discipleship in a vast work of diverse cultures and beliefs"  -H. Ray Dunning

The Apostles' Creed
We believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
He descended into hades;
The third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Church universal,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Second, is our statement of beliefs.  These are the basic agreed upon statements that we believe about God, Scripture, Sin, Judgment and Eternal Life.

Statement of Belief

-We believe in one God—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

-We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.

-We believe that man is born with a fallen nature, and is, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually.

-We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.

-We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.

-We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

-We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.

-We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.

Thanks for taking a few minutes to read my post on what we believe.  I realize that some of this stuff can become a little overwhelming... in reality, what I want to help people do is to experience a personal relationship with a loving God that cares about the details of their life.  If you are new to this whole "faith thing", don't get caught up in the doctrine right now.  Ultimately, we want to help people to Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose and Make a Difference!

If I can help you understand more about who we are as a church and our beliefs, don't hesitate to reach out to me!  I would be happy to talk with you over the phone or in person and answer any questions you might have.
