Flowing with Milk & Honey

In Numbers 13, Joshua and Caleb report of the land that God had promised them as “flowing with milk and honey”.   As I read that this week, I think about the vision that they were declaring to the Israelites.  It’s not just a good place to settle, it’s not just freedom from oppression, it’s not our only option so we better just go there… this place is flowing with milk & honey.

From my Bible in One Year Devotional, the author makes four specific points from this week’s reading that I think are applicable to our context with Renew Church.

1. Take Possession
There were some pretty negative comments being made among the Israelite people:
‘We look like ants to them…”
“They will certainly defeat us…”
“If only we could go back to Egypt…”.
There is always going to be opposition but do not be put off by the giants.    The Israelites did not think that they could defeat the giants but Moses, Aaron, Caleb and Joshua believed God was greater than the problem.

2. Believe God’s Promises
The Lord said to Moses, “How long will they refuse to believe in me?”  Several said, “Why didn’t we just die in Egypt?”  (14:2)
Sometimes we are tempted to return to our old life… Don’t do it!  Follow Jesus and the plan He has for you!  He knows what He is doing!

3. Watch for His Guidance
I love the picture of how God led the Israelites ‘in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.’  If you want to enjoy all the good things God has for you, keep your eyes on Him and watch for His guidance.
When we fall behind it is noticeable.  Our life begins to reflect it and people can see it by the decisions we are making.  However, getting ahead of God is sometimes a little harder to see.  Because we walk in faith, its possible that others don’t see what we see.  Therefore, we must stay in step with the leading of the Holy Spirit.  He speaks to us through His Word, through His people and other times you will just have His abiding peace even when it doesn’t all make sense yet.  Don’t get ahead of Him and don’t fall behind.

4. Follow Him passionately
It says in Numbers 14:24, “Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly”.  Only those following the Lord passionately will experience everything that God has for them… a land flowing with milk and honey.  The point that I am trying to make is that you can follow God either begrudgingly or passionately.  Choose to chase after Him with all out passion!

We are on our way…

I close with a theme verse from my years in youth ministry and the command that God gave to Joshua as he prepared to lead the Israelites into the land flowing with milk and honey…
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:9

Very heartfelt
I go to a Catholic Church. I am a believer but have never really felt at home you might say at church. The church I go to has a good pastor and messages are very heartfelt and sometimes they hit home. Just trying to find my way and wanted to know lil bit more about renew church and it’s religous beliefs and teachings. Besides what I read online.
Thank you in advance for any assistance or information
