So, maybe you figured out that I don’t have an actual “fitness” trainer, but I do like to stay active.  I have run 2 Marathons and several ½ marathons in the last 10 years or so.  For the last 5 years, I have run a ½ marathon every year.  Normally, I run the Miami Marathon for several reasons: Picturesque views of Miami Beach and Biscayne Bay, the weather is perfect, and I am trying to get into shape after Christmas.

This will be the first year that I will not have run or trained for a long-distance race but believe it or not, I feel like the preparation for Renew Church has been more than a ½ marathon- it feels like an Iron Man.  If you don’t know what an Iron Man is, it is a Marathon, 112 Mile Bike Ride and a 2.5 Mile swim- all in the same day! The reason it feels like more than just a foot race is because there is a team of us that have been “cross training” for months in areas that we otherwise might have never done, and we are striving to go farther and work harder.

My daughters normally ask me after a big race, “Daddy, did you win?” As children, they are often thinking of the race in terms of beating another racer, but in these kind of events- it’s less about your opponent and its more about you.

Just like competing in a long-distance race, Renew Church has taken us through a series of emotions including excitement, denial, shock, isolation, despair, the Wall, affirmation and elation.  We are at the affirmation stage and we can see the finish line ahead…. but we still have a long way to go.

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me- the task of testifying to the good news of God's grace.  Acts 20:24

P.S.  This weekend is our On-Site training for to prepare to set up and tear down at Norma Butler Bossard Elementary.  Our entire team will join me from 8am-4pm on Saturday as we work together to build an amazing space for the W. Kendall community.  We also have several churches/youth groups that will be helping us distribute doorhangers announcing our Grand Opening on 1.27.19! If you can help, reach out to me and I will get you all the information. My email is pastortreavor@gmail.com  Thanks!
