Day four: Jesus came to set us free.

The pathway to freedom is believing Jesus. Not believing in Jesus, but believing Him.

It may seem like I’m splitting hairs, but there is a difference.

To better illustrate this point, let’s look at Santa Claus. A child may say they believe in Santa Claus. Even adults may say they believe in the spirit of Santa Claus. They know who he is and what he does. There’s lots of books and movies about him. They may even write letters to the North Pole. But they’ve never had a close encounter with the real Santa.

Believing in Jesus can sometimes feel just as abstract. What makes the difference is when we make it personal. When we encounter Jesus in the pages of the Bible or when we speak with Him in prayer. While you may not hear His audible voice, you can feel Him talking to you. You can feel His spirit within you, guiding you.

To believe Jesus is to believe his red-letter words in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. To sit at His feet, just as His disciples did and hear His instruction, hear His prayers for us and see the lengths He went to rescue us.

This world certainly keeps us so busy sometimes it’s hard to find time for relationships. So, we need to be intentional and set aside a time to have a cup of coffee with Jesus… sit and hear His words to you. He will speak directly to your heart.

Scripture Reference:
Galatians 3:22

-  But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ.

Prayer Prompt: Ask Jesus to speak to you from the pages of scripture, to help you get to know Him up close and personal.
