Hi there!

You do not want to miss this weekend!  This Sunday, we are having a special service called “Hope Sunday” to give you an opportunity to learn about the Hope Center that Renew Church sponsors and meet our leaders and some of our residents!  After the service, we will have an OPEN HOUSE where you can tour the Hope Center and learn how you can pray, volunteer and sponsor.

On another note, Baptism is this weekend!  We are excited to announce there are 7 people getting baptized this weekend!  If you have never been baptized (or maybe you weren’t old enough to remember), consider taking this NEXT STEP in your faith! Baptism is Hope in action!

At Renew Church we believe that baptism is important for every person who has accepted Christ as their Savior. We consider it a privilege to walk with those that choose to take this next step on their spiritual journey.

Baptism
Baptism has been a Christian symbol since the time of Jesus. It involves applying water to Christians to symbolize their death to the old way of life (Romans 6:3-4) and their new life God provides (Galatians 3:26-27). Baptism, a sacramental "means of grace”, seals one's intention to follow God (Acts 2:37-41, 8:35-39, 10:44-48).

A general definition for the word baptism is “a rite of washing with water as a sign of religious purification and consecration.” This rite was practiced frequently in the Old Testament. It signified purity or cleansing from sin and devotion to God. Since baptism was first instituted in the Old Testament many have practiced it as a tradition yet have not fully understood its significance and meaning.

In the New Testament, the significance of baptism is seen more clearly. John the Baptist was sent by God to spread the news of the coming Messiah—Jesus Christ. John was directed by God (John 1:33) to baptize those who accepted his message. John’s baptizing is called “a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” (Mark 1:4).  Those baptized by John acknowledged their sins and professed their faith that through the coming Messiah they would be forgiven.

Child Dedication
Another special moment in the life of families in our church is Child Dedication. This happens when the parents choose to have their children dedicated as a symbol of their intention to raise them in God's Church and their hope to see that they choose God's ways when they are older.  This event is very special for the friends and family connected to the child that is being dedicated, so don’t forget to invite them to join you!

See you Sunday!
Looking Up,
