Got To v. Get To

Hi there!

I realize I shared this on Sunday but I truly feel there is a “shift” happening in our church and I wanted to take this opportunity to explain what I mean by this.  Many are moving from “got to” to “get to”.  

For some people, going to church has been obligatory (meaning they feel obligated to go).  For others, it's out of tradition, “I go to church because this is what I have always done”.  Sometimes, there are multiple reasons why a person goes to church, but I feel like many people that are coming to Renew no longer attend because “I HAVE (got) to go”.  The mindset feels like it is shifting to more of a “I GET to go to church”.

Why do I feel this way?  Here is some of the evidence for what I feel is taking place:

• More People are coming than ever before.  Our Homestead campus has grown by 20% and our Miami Campus has grown by 28% in the last year.  (Average attendance is 400+ per week between both campuses). 
• More people are inviting friends than ever before.  We are consistently seeing between 7-17 new guests every week. 
• More people are getting involved in Small Groups than ever before. One of our Core Values at Renew is that we “Disciple people through Small Groups”.  There are many people that are finding community and growing in their relationship with God through our Small Groups happening almost every night of the week.
• More people are serving than ever before.  We have added many new people to our Renew Crew and people are making a difference because they have discovered their purpose. 
• More people are getting baptized than ever before! 
• More people are watching online than ever before.  Our Social Media and Youtube participation has grown significantly!  

The rest of my reasoning for the shift from “Got to” to “Get to” is less about statistics and its more of an intangible feeling as I watch people interact before, during and after church.  It's the way that people are filling up the front rows in some of the services.  It's the way people are seeking God and coming forward for prayer.  It's the way people are trusting God with the Tithe.  

If you are coming to church because you “got to” - can I encourage you to pray that God would shift your heart to a place where you no longer come for that reason.  I “Get To” go to church and I can’t wait to see what God does this weekend!
